The 53rd Annual Rutgers University Geology Museum Open House will be held virtually this year on Saturday, January 30, 2021 between 9:30 am and 2 pm. Join us for a day of paleontology-themed lectures and activities! Events and activities will be held on Zoom, Webex & Faceboook.

Mineral Sale

  • Mineral sale will run from 9:00am to 8:00pm EST on our Facebook page.
    • The sale will be held auction-style, and you must have a Facebook Account to place a bid.
  • NJ sales tax will be charged on all sales.
  • Payments will be taken online. Winning bidders will receive details and must complete payment by Monday, 2/1 @ 8PM EST.
  • Items purchased must be picked up at the Museum during specified times.

Children's Activities

All childrens' activities will be held on Zoom.

Activities will run from 9:30-10:30AM, 10:30-11:30AM, and 1:00-2:00PM EST.

All three activities will be offered during each time slot, but some activities will take the full hour to complete. If you would like to participate in more than one activity, please register for more than one time slot. For example, if you would like to participate in all three activities, please register for all three time slots. Please make sure to arrive to your selected session on time.

You will receive a Zoom link to participate in the activities a few days prior to the Open House event. 
The form will be checked periodically throught the day during Open House.
**If you register the day-of, please allow at least 1 hour for the link to be emailed to you.

  • Activity 1: Big Impact!
    • In order to participate, you will need to bring a few items with you to this activity session.
      • A bowl/container/tray
      • Flour/sugar
      • 2-3 rocks of different sizes
      • Pencil
      • Ruler
      • Blank paper or printed activity sheet
  • Activity 2: Dinosaur Trivia
    • No materials are needed to participate in this event.
  • Activity 3: Dinosaur Origami
    • In order to participate, you will need to bring a few items with you to this activity session.
      • Origami paper or square sheets of regular paper
      • Markers to decorate your dinosaur creations
