With the continuation of Rutgers' closure to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Rutgers Geology Museum has transitioned many of its educational programs to a virtual format. Below is a listing of the current online programs we offer.


Virtual Annual Open House

Open House ImageJoin us for a virtual edition of our 53rd Annual Open House event! The event will be held on Saturday, January 30th, and this year's theme is Paleontology! Dig into the past and learn all about fossil creatures in a series of guest lectures and children's activities! We will also be holding a virtual Fossil and Mineral Auction on our Facebook Page.

"Ask A Geologist" Web Series

Ask A Geologist ImageJoin us on certain Fridays for these online sessions, where we hope to engage children and answer their questions! During each event, our geologist will first introduce the day's geologic topic and then answer your questions about it! Events are primarily aimed at elementary and middle school aged children, but all ages are welcome to join and learn something new!

Virtual "Late Night at the Museum" Events

The Rutgers Geology Museum Late Night Gone VirtualOur virtual Late Nights will consist of do-at-home arts & crafts activities, a trivia game, and a presentation by a guest scientist!
Late Nights will run monthly on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 PM EST.

Wednesday, February 3rd: Virtual Hydrothermal Vents Late Night
Wednesday, March 3rd: Virtual Sharks Late Night
Wednesday, April 7th: Virtual Antarctica Late Night
Wednesday, May 5th: Virtual Meteorites Late Night


Online Paint-Along Events

Sharks PaintingOur online, Paint-Along events will continue this Spring! Join Museum Co-Director, Dr. Lauren Adamo, as she paints an Underwater Shark scene! Event costs $5.00 per participant (free for Museum Members!) and is perfect for all ages. Our Spring event will be held on Tuesday, March 9th at 6:30 PM EST.

Virtual "Amazing Minerals" Patch Tours

Mineral Patch PhotoOur "Amazing Minerals" Patch Tour has been converted to a virtual program! While originally developed for cub scout and girl scout groups, this program is perfect for anyone interested in learning about rocks and minerals. This program costs $10 per participant and includes a Mineral ID kit.

Virtual Geology Merit Badge Program for Boy Scouts

Pumpjack PixabayOur newest program was developed specifically for Boy Scouts interested in earning their Geology Merit Badge. This is a two part program, focusing on the Energy Resources Track of the Geology Merit Badge.
